Nicaragua
With a focus on play and its traditional antipode work, Grant Ramsey explores the forms of labor and leisure in Nicaragua, while simultaneously unsettling these categories. Images ostensibly of play are also redolent of violence, pain, lonliness, or saddness. Conversely, what on the surface are the most mundane froms of work--putting bread in an oven, washing laundry by hand--pulse with an inner rhythm, beauty, or sublimity.
